College Football is Cancelled

College football: A complete list of every school that has ...

2020 gets worse by the week. Recent announcements have seen college football conferences cancelled or suspended until the spring of 2021, leaving players, coaches and fans reeling in the news. One of the biggest questions that have come from these announcements is what will happen to the players.

As a student-athlete, you are now just a student, which means you will finally have to start going to class. If you are an athlete reading this, you are in the right place, below we cultivated a list on what to do next, and thrive as a student.

  • Get a pen and paper. This will be key, you will need this in all of your classes, to take notes from the teacher, or "coach" of the class.
  • The teacher is in charge, but instead of shouting at you when you miss a catch or fumble the ball, they will shout at you when you get an answer wrong or fall asleep in class. Try not to fall asleep in class.
  • Books. What is a book you ask? It's like a playbook for the class you are taking, it contains all the key information you'll need to study.
  • The library. This will be like your stadium for the next year, but instead of being surrounded by adoring fans, you will be surrounded by books.
  • You might be wondering what to wear, you can't just walk around in your team's gear now. Maybe wear a pair of jeans or a buttoned shirt to help you come across a bit smarter.
  • Tests are a thing and you will need to study for them. They are kind of like learning a new slant route or blitz formation. But instead of the play being over in a few seconds, the test goes on for a couple of hours, and you will have multiple answers to chose from just to make things harder.
  • You'll meet a lot of different people, and they will have different interests than you. Ask them if they saw the game at the weekend (Yes the NFL will be on while you are stuck studying for a degree), they will probably say no, they more than likely were watching a Marvel film marathon or playing online video games.
  • You will need a part-time job. Not that you got paid before (wink wink), you will need a job to pay the bills, feed yourself, buy clothes, gas etc. All those things you didn't have to worry about when you were playing, will now be at the forefront of your mind every day.
Take heed of this advice and you will excel as a student, and the time, until you become a student-athlete again, will fly by.
